How Many Prophets in Islam
In Islam, There are 25 mentioned by name in the Quran, there is a hadith that states there were 124,000 prophets (صَلَّى ٱللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) sent to various nations and time periods
ثُمَّ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلَنَا تَتْرَا ۖ كُلَّ مَا جَآءَ أُمَّةًۭ رَّسُولُهَا كَذَّبُوهُ ۚ فَأَتْبَعْنَا بَعْضَهُم بَعْضًۭا وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ أَحَادِيثَ ۚ فَبُعْدًۭا لِّقَوْمٍۢ لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ
Thereafter, We sent Our messengers successively. Whenever its messenger came to a community, they rejected him. Then We made some of them follow others (in destruction) and turned them into tales (of history). So, away with a people who do not believe. (23. Al-Mu’minun)
Name of Prophet in Islam
- Adam: The first human and prophet. Taught monotheism and obedience to Allah.
- Idris (Enoch): Known for wisdom and early knowledge, he called people to righteousness.
- Nuh (Noah): Warned his people of impending punishment, built the ark.
- Hud: Sent to the people of ‘Ad to preach against idolatry.
- Salih: Preached to the Thamud about worshipping Allah alone.
- Ibrahim (Abraham): A key figure in monotheism, rebuilt the Kaaba, and was tested in his faith.
- Isma’il (Ishmael): Assisted Ibrahim in rebuilding the Kaaba, known for patience and submission.
- Ishaq (Isaac): Continued the message of Ibrahim to worship Allah alone.
- Lut (Lot): Warned his people against immorality.
- Ya’qub (Jacob): Also called Israel, a patriarch of the Bani Isra’il.
- Yusuf (Joseph): Known for his beauty and wisdom; taught patience and reliance on Allah.
- Shu’ayb: Warned the people of Midian against dishonesty in trade.
- Ayyub (Job): A model of patience and gratitude despite hardships.
- Dhul-Kifl (Ezekiel): Preached justice and adherence to Allah’s commands.
- Musa (Moses): Delivered Bani Isra’il from Pharaoh and received the Torah.
- Harun (Aaron): Supported Musa in his mission and led in his absence.
- Dawud (David): A king and prophet who was given the Psalms (Zabur).
- Sulayman (Solomon): Known for wisdom, justice, and the ability to communicate with animals.
- Ilyas (Elijah): Warned against Baal worship.
- Al-Yasa’ (Elisha): Continued the mission of Ilyas.
- Yunus (Jonah): Repented after initially fleeing from his mission.
- Zakariya (Zechariah): A devout servant of Allah, he prayed for a righteous son.
- Yahya (John the Baptist): Known for his piety and calling people to repentance.
- ‘Isa (Jesus): Preached love, humility, and the worship of Allah; performed miracles by Allah’s will.
- Muhammad (PBUH): The final prophet, sent to all humanity with the Qur’an.
